Let your curiosity rise!
Why do some things float while others sink? What happens when we change an object’s shape, volume, or material? And how do the physical principles behind buoyancy allow ships to cross oceans, submarines to explore the depths, and life jackets to keep us afloat?
Explore buoyancy through interactive exhibits across the Clore Garden of Science, offering surprising and creative ways to experiment and discover. Find out how something that floats can become a weight, and how even metal can stay afloat. Try to float a ball straight into a goal, see whether oil and water can really mix, race submarines to the surface, and uncover plenty of surprises along the way!
Follow the exhibits along the stream, dip your feet in the water, and discover what floats– and what doesn’t.
Floating Ideas is the result of a collaboration between the Clore Garden of Science and Shenkar’s Department of Industrial Design. The collaboration is rooted in a shared belief that bringing science, design, and education together can inspire new ways of observing and exploring the world around us.
