Privacy Protection Policy of the
Davidson Institute of Science Education at the Weizmann Institute of Science (R.A.)
The Davidson Institute of Science Education at the Weizmann Institute of Science (R.A.) (“Davidson Institute” or “the Institute”) respects the privacy of donors, friends, partners, suppliers, users, students, and visitors to the Davidson Institute campus and/or websites maintained by the Davidson Institute, application users, and others (“Users”) and is committed to protecting the personal information of Users in accordance with the Privacy Protection Law, 5741-1981 and the regulations thereunder (“Privacy Protection Law”).
The Davidson Institute is a registered association serving as the educational arm of the Weizmann Institute of Science (“Weizmann Institute”). The Institute is engaged in nurturing and improving science education in Israel, and works to make science in general, and current activity at the forefront of science in particular, accessible to the entire public—children, youth, and adults. This is achieved by emphasizing the relevance of science to everyday life, imparting knowledge, skills, and a scientific approach at a high level, and developing critical thinking, curiosity, creativity, and informed decision-making.
The Davidson Institute interacts with Users, including in person or online, on campus or remotely (“Activities”).
This Privacy Protection Policy (“Privacy Protection Policy”) describes the types of information that the Davidson Institute may collect directly from Users or from third parties, or that Users may provide to the Institute in connection with the Activities, and the measures taken by the Davidson Institute for the collection, use, retention, and processing of information, including through the Institute’s website.
Users wishing to participate in Activities may be asked to provide the Davidson Institute, directly or through third parties, such as service providers for online content promotion or analytical data on website users, certain information including personal information as defined below and as detailed in this Privacy Protection Policy.
Use of and browsing the Institute’s website are subject to this Privacy Protection Policy (as well as the Terms of Use), and express consent to its contents. Please read the Privacy Protection Policy carefully in order to understand the provisions relating to personal information and how such information is handled by the Davidson Institute. This Policy is drafted in the masculine form but is intended for both women and men.
By entering, logging in, accessing, and using the websites and/or applications maintained/operated by and/or participating in Activities and/or providing personal information to the Davidson Institute in any other manner, you express your consent to the terms set forth in our Privacy Policy, including your consent to the collection of your personal information, its processing, and its storage in our databases (in Israel and/or abroad). Your personal information will be used for the purposes detailed in this document. If you do not agree to the terms of the Privacy Policy, you are not authorized to use the websites, applications, Activities, and/or to provide us with personal information in any other manner.
Our Privacy Policy may be updated in the future, and you are therefore requested to check the updated Policy from time to time.
You hereby agree and declare that the personal information you provide to us is provided of your own free will in accordance with the purposes detailed in this Privacy Policy and that you are not required to provide the information by virtue of any legal obligation. If such an obligation arises, we will inform you of it.
Meaning of non-consent to providing information – In accordance with Section 11 of the Privacy Protection Law, we clarify that:
- You are not required by law to provide your personal information.
- The provision of personal information depends on your will and free consent.
- Failure to provide information marked as mandatory fields will prevent you from using the services provided through our websites, applications, or other Activities and will not allow us to contact you.
- Non-consent to receiving marketing mailings will not prevent you from using our websites, applications, services, and/or Activities.
- Non-consent to the use of cookies or other tracking technologies may affect the user experience on the websites and/or applications and the customization of content displayed to you.
- The Davidson Institute is the controller of the database in which the personal information detailed in this Policy is processed.

What information may the Davidson Institute collect?
Data that the Davidson Institute collects about Users through participation in Activities
The Institute collects anonymous information that cannot be identified (“Anonymous Information”) as well as several categories of personal information, including sensitive personal information (as detailed and as defined in the Privacy Protection Law) (“Personal Information”). Personal Information includes:
- Details that enable the identification of individuals, provided knowingly or unknowingly, voluntarily or incidentally, as part of Users’ participation in Activities. Personal Information may include names (first and last), identity number, email address, telephone numbers, photograph, mailing address, date of birth, gender, position and organization name, bank account and other payment details, billing address, and other information that Users may choose to provide to the Davidson Institute.
- In addition, in certain cases, the Davidson Institute may receive data related to the geographic location of a User’s laptop, mobile device, or other digital device used on the Davidson Institute website.
- Social networks: The Davidson Institute website may allow a User to connect and share information with various social network platforms, such as Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, and X. Such use is at the User’s discretion and responsibility. These services may require the Davidson Institute to operate cookies, plugins, and/or application programming interfaces provided by these social network platforms in order to enable communication. The Davidson Institute may share information that a User provides or that the Davidson Institute may collect about Users on the websites with these platforms, and such information will be subject to the privacy protection policies of said platforms. The Davidson Institute recommends that Users review the privacy protection policies of these platforms for further information.
- In addition, when a User chooses to use any third-party media platform or to share content or a message with any social network platform, the User enables the Davidson Institute to share information with that social network platform. The Davidson Institute cannot control the policies or terms of any such third-party platform. As a result, the Davidson Institute cannot be responsible for any use of a User’s details or content by a third-party platform used by the User at the User’s own responsibility.
How does the Davidson Institute collect personal information about Users?
The Davidson Institute collects personal information, both directly and indirectly, in various ways. The most common examples of data provided directly by a User to the Davidson Institute are:
- The User registers for or participates in one of the Activities;
- The User subscribes to one of the Davidson Institute’s mailing lists;
- The User accesses the Davidson Institute website;
The Davidson Institute also receives personal information indirectly. The following are several examples thereof:
- Personal information is stored in collections and archives;
- The User is among the Institute’s donors;
The Davidson Institute, independently or through third-party services as detailed below, also collects information and personal information through a User’s use of the Davidson Institute website. These may include technical details and behavioral information such as the User’s Internet Protocol (IP) used to connect the computer to the Internet, URL, operating system, browser type, browser plugin types and versions, screen resolution and time zone settings, the User’s “click stream,” the length of time the User visited, the methods used to exit the page, and any telephone number used to call Davidson Institute service numbers.
Similarly, the Davidson Institute may place cookies on browsing devices (see “Cookies” section below).
What are the purposes of the personal information collected by the Davidson Institute?
The Davidson Institute uses personal information to enable and improve the Activities and to fulfill its contractual, ethical, and legal obligations, including for example:
- Verification and execution of financial transactions related to payments made by the User;
- Updating the User regarding changes in Activities;
- Contacting the User to provide technical assistance and other information related to Activities;
- Responding to User inquiries, resolving problems, identifying and defending against errors, fraud, or other criminal activity, and requesting feedback in connection with Activities;
- Contacting the User to provide information about events or promotions or other Activities offered by the Davidson Institute, including on other websites;
- Monitoring the use of Davidson Institute facilities and Activities to enable the Davidson Institute to improve the Activities;
- Compliance and audit purposes, such as fulfilling reporting obligations, and for the prevention of crime and litigation and the exercise of the rights of the Davidson Institute and/or the User or others.
Generally, the Davidson Institute processes personal information on the basis of one or more of the following legal grounds:
- On the basis of the Davidson Institute’s legitimate interests, where the rights and freedoms of data subjects do not override the interests of the Davidson Institute, including the Davidson Institute’s legitimate interest in marketing the Davidson Institute’s Activities and for security and operational purposes of the Davidson Institute’s Activities;
- For the fulfillment of the Davidson Institute’s contractual obligations, including with employees, suppliers, partners, affiliated entities, and the like;
- By consent.
Data Sharing with Third Parties
The Davidson Institute transfers personal information to third parties—including to the Weizmann Institute and related parties—in a variety of circumstances. The Davidson Institute makes efforts to ensure that these third parties hold and process such personal information only to the extent required to perform their functions, and to enter into a contract with them to regulate the manner of their holding and processing on behalf of the Davidson Institute.
These third parties may include the Institute and entities related thereto, friends of the Institute associations, and suppliers for the purpose of performing any contract and providing any service of the Davidson Institute, including: processing transactions, fulfilling requests for information, receiving and sending messages, data analysis, provision of information technology services and other support services or other tasks, such as marketing, from time to time.
In addition:
- Certain entities that cooperate with the Davidson Institute may be required to know, for their data management and security purposes, the identity of any person accessing areas in which they cooperate with the Davidson Institute.
- The Davidson Institute adds and removes third-party suppliers from time to time. At this stage, the suppliers to whom the Davidson Institute may transfer personal information also include: providers of security and administrative services on campus; website analytics services; marketing and mailing services, standard business service providers, such as lawyers, accountants, and the like.
- The Davidson Institute may transfer personal information to third parties if it is obligated to disclose or share such details in order to comply with any obligation under the law, audit, or compliance, in the course of any legal or regulatory proceeding or investigation, or in order to enforce or apply the Davidson Institute’s agreements; or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Users, or others. These cases include the exchange of information with other companies and organizations for fraud protection and credit risk reduction purposes and for the prevention of cybercrimes.
For the avoidance of doubt, it is clarified that the Davidson Institute may transfer and disclose anonymous information to third parties at its discretion.
Where does the Davidson Institute store the User’s data?
The Davidson Institute and/or its employees may store personal information on computers, local servers, and data centers of the Davidson Institute, or on cloud-based computing services, such as OneDrive and the like. The Institute’s databases are registered in the government database registry in accordance with the Privacy Protection Law.
International Data Transfers
There may be cases of transfer, storage, and use of personal information in destinations located outside or within Israel, and in such cases, the Davidson Institute will take reasonably necessary steps to ensure that personal information will be adequately protected and will be handled securely and in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
The Davidson Institute may transfer personal information outside of Israel in order to:
- Store or back up the information;
- Fulfill any obligation under the law, audit, or compliance that requires the Davidson Institute to make the transfer;
- Enable the operation of the Activities, where this is within the legitimate interests of the Davidson Institute and the Davidson Institute has concluded that they do not harm the User’s rights;
- Serve the Users.
Data Retention
- The Davidson Institute retains personal information for the period required to perform the Activities, to comply with legal obligations, to resolve disputes and enforce agreements, and to maintain best practices for audit, compliance, and any other legitimate purpose and in accordance with the requirements of the law. Upon the request of a data subject, the Davidson Institute will delete information related to that data subject seven (7) years after the cessation of all activity of the data subject vis-à-vis the Davidson Institute.
Website Data Collection and Cookies
- When a User accesses the Davidson Institute website, the Davidson Institute may use industry-standard technologies such as cookies and similar technologies that store certain information on the computer or device and enable identification of the User’s computer or device and browser type, and to enable automatic activation of certain features and improvement of the user experience. The Davidson Institute uses various types of cookies: Some cookies are strictly necessary, as they are required for the operation of the website and in accordance with the Davidson Institute’s Terms of Use; these files include, for example, cookies that enable access to secure areas in the Activities. The Davidson Institute also uses cookies for analytics and performance tracking that enable the Davidson Institute to identify and count the number of visitors and to see how many visitors move around the website when using it. Finally, the Davidson Institute uses functional cookies that serve to identify a User when returning to the website. This allows content to be customized to the User’s preferences, including, for example, language or region selection.
- Different cookies are stored for different periods of time. “Session” cookies are used to track the User’s online activities during a given single session; these cookies usually expire when the browser is closed, but they may be stored on the User’s device for a certain period of time. Persistent cookies continue to function even after the browser is closed; they are used to remember the User’s login details and password. Third-party cookies are installed by third parties in order to collect certain information for behavioral research and demographic data. Third-party cookies on the Davidson Institute’s website include, for example, Google Analytics. Similarly, pixels from Facebook and other entities enable the integration of third-party service providers (for example, Facebook, X) on the Davidson Institute’s website. Third-party cookies will be stored according to the terms of those third parties, and the User may control these cookies within the browser settings.
- The Davidson Institute uses cookies and other technologies because they are required for the performance of the contract, or because their use is consistent with the Davidson Institute’s legitimate interests of improving, optimizing, and personalizing the Activities, insofar as they do not harm the User’s rights.
- Most browsers will allow the Davidson Institute to delete cookies from the User’s computer hard drive, to block the receipt of cookies, or to receive a warning before a cookie is stored. However, if the User blocks or deletes cookies, this will limit the online experience on the website or additional Activities.
- How to disable cookies: The effect of disabling cookies depends on the type of cookies being disabled, but in general, disabling or removing cookies may cause the website and some of the Activities provided through it not to function properly, not to recognize the User’s device, not to remember the User’s preferences, and so on. However, the activation and deactivation of cookies are subject to the User’s choice and control. Disabling cookies on the website is possible by changing browser settings to reject cookies. The manner in which this can be done depends on the browser being used and details can be found on the support websites of all major browsers.
- The Davidson Institute’s websites may include, from time to time, links to external websites and services. The Davidson Institute is not responsible for the operation, management of information, and privacy policy, content, or any aspect of such websites and services.
Information Security and Storage
The Davidson Institute is very careful and invests considerable resources in maintaining the level of security of personal information processed by it. Similarly, the Davidson Institute takes steps to ensure the safety of its website. However, Users should be aware that there are no perfect or impenetrable data security measures, and the Davidson Institute cannot guarantee that unauthorized access, leaks, viruses, and other data security breaches will never occur.
The Davidson Institute takes steps to limit access to personal information and to maintain its integrity and availability, and also takes steps to ensure that its employees with access to personal information are bound by a duty of confidentiality.
The Davidson Institute will act in accordance with its policy to inform the relevant authorities and data subjects promptly in any case of loss, theft, or unauthorized access to personal information processed by the Davidson Institute, all in accordance with applicable law and pursuant to the instructions of the competent authority. The Davidson Institute will take reasonable corrective actions promptly.
Rights of Data Subjects
The Privacy Protection Law may grant data subjects certain rights. These rights may include, depending on the circumstances and relevant legislation, rights to data access, data correction, and withdrawal of consent.
In addition, the exercise of data subject rights will not be permitted in a manner that is inconsistent with the rights of the Davidson Institute’s employees and staff members, the proprietary and other rights of the Davidson Institute, and the rights of third parties. Therefore, access to or correction of recommendations for hiring, reviews, comments and internal evaluations, documents and notes, including proprietary information or types of intellectual property and experimental data, will not be permitted.
Furthermore, these rights will not be exercisable when they relate to data that does not exist in a structured form, such as email messages, or in cases where there is an exemption from their retention.
If a data subject wishes, for any reason, to change or retrieve their personal details, they may do so by contacting the Davidson Institute at the email address listed below. Please note that the Davidson Institute may be required to conduct a process to identify the data subject exercising their rights. The Davidson Institute may retain the details of a data subject as aforesaid for the purpose of meeting its compliance and audit requirements.
General
The Davidson Institute strives to process personal information to the extent limited to the needs and purposes for which it is collected. The Davidson Institute collects personal information only for a specific legitimate purpose and holds personal information only in accordance with this Privacy Protection Policy.
Changes to the Privacy Protection Policy
The terms of this Privacy Protection Policy shall apply to use of the Activities and the website, and to any information collected in connection therewith. The Davidson Institute may change or update the Privacy Protection Policy from time to time. Any change to this Privacy Protection Policy shall take effect on the “Last Update” date indicated, and continued access to the Activities shall constitute active acceptance of the changes to the Privacy Protection Policy and the User’s consent to be bound thereby.

We endeavor to handle all requests promptly and to respond to them within two business days at most. In special circumstances, or when important details are missing from the inquiry, the processing time may be longer.
Right of Access
You have the right to access information concerning you that is stored in the Institute’s databases. The manner of exercising this right shall be determined from time to time by the Institute in accordance with the provisions of the Privacy Protection Regulations (Conditions for Accessing Information and Appellate Procedures for Refusal of Access Request), 5741-1981 and the guidelines of the Registrar of Databases.
If you encounter erroneous information concerning you, or information that appears to you to be erroneous, you may request that it be corrected or deleted. If your request for access, correction, or deletion is denied, you may appeal to the Magistrate’s Court in the manner prescribed in these Regulations.
